THE NATION, LAHORE, 08th OCTOBER 2013:-  A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Punjab government and Japan government to promote wrestling here in the city.
According to this MOU signed between the two countries, a wrestling academy will be established in Lahore. The expert Japanese wrestling coaches will train the enthusiastic young wrestlers of Pakistan according to the latest techniques. The MoU was signed by the Director Sports Usman Anwar representing Punjab government while worldwide famous wrestler M Hussain Inoki from the Japan government.
Speaking on this occasion, Minister YASAT Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said: “The Punjab government has taken effective steps to bring out the wrestling from its bottom to the top and to promote this traditional sport in the province. Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has taken pragmatic steps for which this sport is again gaining its repute in the country.”
“The participants from 26 countries had taken part in the last Youth Festival while we are hoping to double the number of participants from various countries in the upcoming Youth Festival and we will also invite Japanese team to take part in it,” he stated. “M Hussain Inoki is also the ambassador of Japan government and he has promised to help out the quake stricken effected people,” added Mashhood.
Expressing his views, Inoki said: “Wrestling is the tradition and culture of Pakistan and to promote it, Japan government will always with Pakistan government.  Pakistan is rich with the talented wrestlers and I hope the existence of this wrestling academy will urge the new and talented wrestlers to compete worldwide famous wrestlers.”
DG Sports Usman Anwar thanked the Japanese delegation. MPA Bilal Yaseen, Tahiya Noor, secretary sports M Khan Kicchi and other officials from Punjab wrestling association and Lahore wrestling association were also present there to witness the event. Inoki announced to support financially Haroon Abid, son of Abid Pehalwan and nephew of Jhara Pehalwan, in educating and teaching him the new wrestling tips. Haroon will now get technical education in Japan under the supervision of Inoki’s wrestling foundation.
