THE NATION, ISLAMABAD, 08th OCTOBER 2013:- The 55th convocation of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) was held on Monday.
According issued statement, the convocation of CIIT Wah and Attock campuses were jointly held whereby 292 students were awarded degrees at graduate and under-graduate level in the fields of Management Sciences, Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering and Mathematics.
The passing out graduates from CIIT Wah campus were 228, with 163 male and 65 female students. The graduates of CIIT Attock campus were 64 with 28 male and 36 female students.
Graduates were awarded medals for their outstanding achievements in their respective degree programmes. Various categories of medals included Campus Gold Medal (six for CIIT Wah and five for Attock), Campus Silver Medal (four medals four each campus) and Campus Bronze Medal (two for CIIT Wah and three for Attock). Among the medal categories at the institute level, CIIT Wah campus graduates won one Institute Gold Medal and two Institute Silver Medals, while the CIIT Attock campus graduates won three medals each in Institute Gold Medal and Institute Silver Medal categories.  Speaking on the occasion, Director General Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IESCO) and the occasion’s Chief Guest Dr Abdul Aziz Othman Altwaijri said the CIIT was one of the best institutes.
The degree, he believed, besides being a tool for seeking job, was the beginning of an endless process of learning, doing good and being kind. On the occasion, Dr Altwaijri was awarded Patron Gold Medal by the CIIT management.  Rector CIIT Dr Junaid Zaidi congratulated the graduating students and advised them to work hard and make greater contributions to the development of their country and nation. He called upon the campus faculty to focus on research and publications in order to contribute to and keep pace with the new developments of knowledge.
The Director CIIT Wah campus Dr Tayyab Akram, while presenting the campus report, said the CIIT Wah campus had student strength of 2700 with 172 faculty members including 48 doctorate degree-holders and supporting staff of 192 members.
HEC Executive Director Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said the Government of Pakistan had increased the funding for higher education in the country. He stressed on the need to promote education to bring change while urging the students to strive for improving their qualifications.
