PR to be made profitable in three years, says Saad


THE NATION, MULTAN, 25th SEPTEMBER 2013:- Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways (PR) Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that during next three years major reforms would be brought in Railways to put it onto track of profit.
Speaking during a meeting here on Tuesday, Khawaja Saad Rafique said that as many as 50 new Railway engines would be purchased through international tender. He said to make PR functional about Rs 5 billion will be spent on repair of 150 locomotives. General Manager (GM) PR, Anjum Pervez briefing the meeting said that at present Railways has been facing annual deficit of Rs 29 billion.
Recounting some of the major reforms, he said that from now onward appointments would be made on merit only.
“There will be zero tolerance about irregularities in the ministry.” Pakistan Railways, given its poor infrastructure and problematic locomotives, has been suffering from a massive loss of over Rs 40 billion.
