58 Chinese locomotives to join Railways from Nov


THE NATION, LAHORE, 14th SEPTEMBER 2013:- – Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said the down payment to Chinese companies for the purchase of 58 locomotives is made and that engines will start joining the railways’ fleet from November.
Presiding over a meeting at Railways headquarter here on Friday, the minister added that transparency would be ensured in any purchase agreement. He said the country’s interest would be protected at any cost and time of commission and kickbacks were over.
Representatives of Chinese company CSR Zihang, US company Allied Engineering, Pakistani company Pemcon and officials of the Railways participated in the meeting. The meeting was held especially to discuss the purchasing 58 locomotives for the Railways.
It was informed through a statement that the Railways demanded more than three years warranty period and guarantees for the said locomotives.
Pak-China economic corridor and up-gradation of the Railways track from Peshawar to Karachi was also discussed in the meeting.
