THE NATION, LAHORE, 09th SEPTEMBER 2013:- Pakistan should quit the US war on terror, initiate talks with the Taliban, launch no operation against the fighters engaged in dialogue and adopt reconciliation policy to handle the issue of terrorism, says PTI Chairman Imran Khan while unveiling his party’s four-point proposals for the proposed All Parties Conference (APC).
Imran unveiled these four-point suggestions for the APC to deal with the issue of terrorism while addressing Insaf Labour Convention on Sunday.
The PTI chief demanded a closed-door meeting with the prime minister, the army chief and the interior minister before the APC to convey his reservations over the ‘shadowy’ war on terror.
He said, “Pakistan should quit the US war on terror, initiate talks with the Taliban, launch no operation against the fighters engaged in dialogue and adopt reconciliation policy to handle the issue of terrorism.”
Imran asked the government to utilise sizable funds for the development of the people of the tribal areas and carry out a military operation only if the people of this region respond negatively after the initiation of PTI’s recommendations. He said military operations had failed to resolve the issue of terrorism.
Imran claimed the national resources were being robbed by the ruling elite in the name of privatisation.
He added the ongoing privatisation was aimed at benefiting certain people from the ruling elite and had nothing to do with the welfare of the masses.
He said the rich who included parliamentarians, industrialists, landlords and bureaucrats, were not in the habit of paying their taxes while the rulers were levying heavy taxes like General Sales Tax (GST) on the working class.
Imran remarked the tax-evading corrupt rulers had secured their ill-gotten money in foreign banks.
The PTI chairman said the country could be led to the road of real progress if corruption was eradicated and Pakistan pulled herself out of the US war on terror.
He said local and foreign investors would not invest in Pakistan if these two major issues (terrorism and corruption) were not addressed.
Imran said big fish should be brought into the accountability net to cleanse the country from corruption.
He announced Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would bring an accountability bill which would enable the provincial government to nab the big fish to eradicate corruption from top level.
Imran said the PTI-led government, in a bid to transform Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a real welfare province, had started the process of preparing lists of widows, orphans and labourers to support them so that they could lead a respectable life.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan, chairing a meeting of the city chapter leadership, said holding of non-party elections was reflective of dictatorial mindset, adding PTI would not accept the decision of holding the local bodies’ elections on non-party basis and continue struggle against it.
He directed the provincial capital leadership to start aggressive working keeping in view the trend of May 11 in the city and make preparations to tackle any such situation in the local bodies’ elections.
